On my mind
Holy shit... that dive was wild. I saw shark!
A couple of years ago, I was gliding through the Atlantic off the coast of Lanzarote when I spotted it—an angel shark. My heart immediately started pounding against my wetsuit and my breathing quickened.
Classic fear response.
Here's the thing about fear though—it's not always pointing to actual danger. Sometimes it's swimming alongside you with a deeper message.
Here's what I mean. I've had night terrors about sharks since I was a kid.
But angel sharks? They're harmless. But my body didn't know that in the moment.
Right away, I recognized that I needed to regulate—slow my breathing, notice where I was holding tension, reclaim calm. Oxygen is limited and a precious resource when diving.
Remembering that dive got me thinking about leadership and the fears we carry. How often do we react to situations based on old programming rather than present reality?
This week, we're diving into how fear can stoke growth—whether you're face-to-face with a shark or making high-stakes decisions as a leader.
And yes, my ultimate goal is to swim with tiger sharks in Hawaii with Ocean Ramsey. From night terrors to dream dives—we contain multitudes! 🦈
